I pursed my lips but gave her what she wanted the most. Pulling out my phone, I dialed Shaurya’s number. I knew it by heart. He couldn’t trace the number; I had made sure of it. If he did trace, it would point to different locations.
It started ringing, and I put it on speaker. Sanjana’s hands were out of reach but she bent, bringing her mouth closer to the device. Within two rings, the jerk answered the call.
“Yes?” came his curt reply.
I raised my eyebrows, waiting for Sanju to speak. She bit her lip just as a tear slid down her cheek. Her hands were tied, so I wiped it with my thumb. I pointed my chin to the phone.
“Who’s this?” Shaurya asked, his tone getting crankier.
“It’s me…” Sanjana stopped, as if scared. How could she love a guy she was so scared of?
“Baby doll?”
“Hmm…” Sanjana hummed, her voice feeble.
“Where the hell are you?”
“I…”
“Baby doll… are you okay? Just tell me you are okay.” Good, that he sounded desperate.
Finally, I had taken something from him. Just the way he had by destroying me.
“I am.”
“Oh, thank God.”
“I am sorry… I missed dinner…”
“Don’t worry about it. Thank God you are okay. He has you, doesn’t he?”
“Shaurya…”
“I saw you leaving with him. Also, got your phone.”
“Just stay calm, okay?” she told him.
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
Sanjana bit her lip. “Did you eat?”
I heard another sigh on the other end. What the fuck! This was so intimate.
“No. I will find you, and we will eat together. I hope you know and understand what will happen after I do find you.”
“What if I can convince…”
“Nothing is going to work with me,” he said, interrupting her. “He will pay. And…” Shaurya gave a dramatic pause, and I saw Sanjana gulp. “So will you. Because I have the footage. I saw you leaving with him without force. What happened to keeping a distance from him? Hmm?”
Sanjana tried to talk, but she couldn’t get the words out. I grabbed the phone from the table and turned off the speaker. I won’t allow him to make her uneasy.
