The sound of her tears was… different. Not the pathetic kind that made you want to turn away, but the kind that soothed something feral inside me. Each drop hit the flames in my chest like rain on burning coal—never enough to put it out, but just enough to keep the fire from raging out of control.

I turned. She flinched before my eyes even met hers, instinct pulling her back, but the chains bit her wrists and stopped her cold. Metal on raw skin, a bruise blooming under the iron cuffs. The other end hooked above her head, keeping her pinned like a butterfly on display. She could shift an inch, maybe two. No more.

Crouching in front of her, I wiped the tears streaking down her cheeks, caught the snot before it could fall, and tossed the tissue aside. Her eyes—bloodshot, glassy—searched my face like they were hunting for someone who didn’t live here anymore. Someone I’d killed when she betrayed me.

She made a sound, muffled and desperate, but the duct tape sealed her words into nothing but garbled air. I tilted my head, listening anyway.

Then a groan cut through the room. We both turned toward it.

Aatish.

Still breathing—barely. He was curled on the floor like a discarded rag, his shirt heavy with blood, patches so dark it looked like the fabric had rotted there. His face was more ruin than skin, swollen in places, split open in others. His eyelids fluttered, dragging him back into the world one blink at a time.

I stood, slow and deliberate, and walked over. My shoe found his ribs first—just a nudge, a reminder I was there. His head tilted up, and there it was—exactly what I wanted. Fear. Not the kind you fake, not the kind you swallow. The pure, animal kind that seeps into the bones.

My lips curved. Couldn’t help it.

I lifted my foot high and brought it down on his nose. The crack was loud. The howl was better. He slumped back into unconsciousness, and for once, I agreed with him—blackness was a kinder place.

Turning away, I went back to her. My girl. Jasmine Kaur.

My fingers traced the curve of her jaw, slow enough that she had time to tense under my touch. Her skin was warm, trembling. I caught the edge of the duct tape, ripped it off in one clean pull. The sound was sharp, but her scream—her scream cut deeper, jagged and wild.

I waited. Waited for her to breathe. To swallow it down. Because what came next… would require her voice.

“Please,” she whispered finally, so soft it almost wasn’t there. Her voice shook like glass just before it shatters.

The thing about pleas? They’re only useful if you’re willing to grant them. And I wasn’t. Not yet. Her tears had calmed the fire. Now I needed to see if her fear could feed it.

 “I’m sorry…” she whispered next. “I didn’t mean to…”

“To what?” My voice was almost light. “Cheat on me? In the car I bought you?” I let the words hang between us like smoke. “Of course you didn’t mean to. It’s just that wavery heart of yours. Never could keep it loyal.”

I reached for the knife—the big one, pointed, solid in my grip—and let her see it. “Maybe, my sweetest Jasmine… maybe for your own good… we take that heart out. Because you never said you wouldn’t cheat. Just that you didn’t mean to.”

Her eyes filled fast, tears spilling over. The sobs came hard, breaking her voice, and then the screaming started. Loud. Wild. Desperate for someone who wasn’t coming.

“Help me… please… someone help me from this psycho!”

I brought the knife closer, so close the metal kissed her skin. She froze. My smile stretched slow across my face. The tip touched her, and she gasped.

“Do you know what a psycho would do now?” I asked.

Her whole body shook, every breath shuddering. The knife caught, a whisper of resistance before it drew a thin line of red. She’d done it herself, flinching into the point. I didn’t move. Just watched.

Her creamy skin now carried a streak of crimson, and my pulse kicked hard, heat curling low in my gut.

“Just the color I love on you. Remember that red lipstick I always ask you to wear before going down on me? It’s just like that. Think you can manage it?”

Her eyes went wide, glassy.

“C’mon, you used to love it. I can’t fuck you again—not now, not knowing you opened your legs for someone else… but…” I let the pause hang, savoring it, “…I can still make use of you. Maybe it’ll delay the inevitable. Or would you rather I plunge this knife in and take your heart right now?”

“No… please…”

“Sweetie pie, you’ve got two choices. Get on your knees… or let me take your heart. So…” I tipped my head toward her, my smile easy, generous, like I was offering a gift. “What’s it going to be?”

“I will. I will. Please… don’t… please don’t kill me…”

“And about those red lips… wait…” My grin sharpened. “I just got an idea.”

The knife’s tip slid toward her mouth, pressing against the softness there. I drew it across just enough to break skin. Not deep—but enough for the blood to bloom. She screamed again, of course she did, but now her lips were the perfect shade of red.

I stood, and while she shook and sobbed, she sank to her knees. My belt came free in one smooth pull, the leather whispering through the loops before I wrapped it around her neck.

Now she looked perfect. Just like my pet.

Thank you for reading. Broken but Irresistible will come soon.

Scintilla Series by Payal Dedhia

Aayansh Ahluwalia isn’t just a billionaire business tycoon—he’s the kind of man who haunts people’s nightmares. The world may recognize Scintilla Corporations as a legitimate empire, but Aayansh isn’t confined to the light. In the shadows, he commands an empire of fear, power, and blood. He rules over the underdogs, the darkness that terrifies everyone else.
Ruthless and untouchable, they call him a devil for a reason—he doesn’t flinch, doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t blink when it comes to taking lives.
His existence is fearless. His power, unmatched. Yet beneath the wealth and carnage lies a void—a darkness so complete it consumes him. There’s no light, no hope. Just emptiness stretching endlessly, leaving him hollow.
Then, one night, everything changed.
He saw her—a woman so radiant, so full of life, she made his chaos stand still. She erupted into his world like a dream, settling in his heart and claiming it as her own.
Tisha Chopra.
Aayansh hadn’t been searching for her, hadn’t asked for her. But the moment he saw her, he knew—she would be his.
She didn’t belong in his world, and that only made him want her more. Her laughter, her light—it wasn’t meant to survive the darkness he thrived in, yet it pulled him in, unrelenting. Like a predator to prey, he followed. He didn’t want her to save him. No. He wanted to ruin her, piece by piece, until she belonged to him completely. He would drag her down, crown her queen in his Devil’s Paradise, and make her sit beside him on the devil’s throne while he ruled the world.

What unfolds is a story steeped in obsession, control, and desire—a dangerous game where love is a battlefield, and submission comes at the cost of a soul.
Scintilla isn’t just the name of Aayansh’s empire; it’s the pulse of this saga—a place where power thrives and morality dies.
