The Chase – Chapter 1

The Chase – Chapter 1

“Wait. Stop, mom. We are not having this discussion again. I am not interested. I love my job. Also, if I ever want something, I can ask dad. I don’t need anyone else to take care of me.”

“Tisha, you are an assistant. That’s not a job, dear. And Armaan is your father, don’t forget that.”

“I am not going to argue about Mr. Chopra. This assistant job is enough for me. Damn, mom, I love what I am doing, so just let me be. Do you want me to beg before you leave me alone?”

“You never even wanted to get into the advertising industry.”

Mom continued just as I knew she would. She never let it go and never understood what others were going through or feeling at that moment. For her, only her feelings mattered.

Dad would say – princess, chill pill. She is your mother and has her heart in the right place. I hated that my dad was still madly in love with my mom. He should hate her. She left him. But he didn’t. He was a lovesick fool who was ready to do anything for mom.

“Yes, mom, I know. The publishing industry has very few openings. I am waiting to hear back from a few I have forwarded my resume to.”

“Let Armaan help you with that.”

“No need.”

“He is your dad.”

“Nope. My dad is Gaurav Patel. Rest all are your husbands and only your husbands.”

“Tisha…”

“Stop. I don’t need this. I never came between you and your quest for finding true love and money. You don’t mess with my life.”

“I am your mom.” I had to pull off the phone from my ear to at least an inch. Mom screamed well. She was an expert.

“I am just twenty-three.” I gritted out.

Mom sighed, passing her breath down the line. That was rhetorical, but still, I rubbed my ear.

“Fair enough. Talk to you next week, dear. Love you.”

Wow. Quite a backtrack. She knew when to fight and when to back off.

“You too, bye.”

I threw the phone on the bed and sagged beside it. Oh, God, I really needed the extra energy to get through the call with her.

“I want to sympathize, but I can’t. At least you have a mom who loves to pay your bills.”

“Okay. You will not play your orphan card.”

“What? I have a bloody right to play it anytime.”

Tisha and Aisha are perfect besties who seem to have each others back. The confusion that it comes with regarding her dismantled family. The chapter was perfect

Loved the chapter 1 and the bond Tisha and Aisha shares. Excited to see how the party scene goes and the entry of the male protagonist, Aayansh Ahluwalia 💗 😍
Absolutely enjoyed the conversation between mother and daughter. Curious to know about Tisha’s secrets.
Overall loved the first chapter 🤩
